It turned out that UNIX is some kind of lifestyle for me. I'm not talking about the price. I'm talking about the feel. If you once got over the border (the border is high, you need to learn how to learn first), there usually is no way back.


What I like on UNIX-like systems:

  • it is a legal drug

  • the admin is the master of the system, not the slave

  • usually everything is documented somewhere, just need to find it

  • in the OSS area, your possibilities are unlimited, just your skills are limited

  • usually there is always somebody who had your problem in the past: search the net for his solution



What I don't like on UNIX-like systems:

  • several inflexibilities of the filesystem (UNIX filesystem is static)
